This is as bad as it can get, but don't bet on it

Cool thanks, I'll keep it around this time.

Bob, this is probably long answered, but there is a "VM Additions for
Linux" .iso available that is supposed to address several problems. I
know that it addresses the mouse/pointer problem. I can't find the
read.me on it though I had it last week............

You're probably thinking of the ones for Virtual Server 2005 R2. You may
want to read how that is implemented.
See:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bf12642f-77dc-4d45-ae4e
-e1b05e0a2674&DisplayLang=en
and the Readme file in particular.

The Readme is installed with the additions. The easiest way is to download
the VMAdditions for Linux download on a Windows machine or in any Windows XP
or Vista vm. Then run the installer. This will create the C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Virtual Server\Virtual Machine Additions folder in which you
will find the Readme. It is not necessary to have Virtual Server installed
of course nor is it neccesary for the folder to already exist. Installation
is harmless. I know of no link to just the Readme doc itself.
If the idea of installing in a vm makes you nervous, turn on undo disks in
settings, install, retrieve the doc, and then shut down the vm without
committing the changes to the .vhd.

I just did not remember the name correctly:
Path: D:\vpcstuff\linux
---------------------------------------
VMAdditionsForLinux_32Bit.msi
VMAdditionsForLinux-README.txt <----
VMAdditionsForLinux-README.html
VMAdditionsForLinux.iso
Linux Additions license (5.15.07).rtf
I came across a way to extract a single file from an .msi install package
the other day but neither saved nor marked it.
(I have a tendency not to leave things in their default install directories
which too often are several subdirectory levels down.......)
Another way to do a disposable install in a vm is to copy .vmc and vhd of an
existing vm of whatever flavor is desired, 'create existing' from vpc
console, use it, get what you want from it (in my case email the output to
myself to put it through the ISP virus checker), then dump the vm. All
clean again. (I did that for an install .exe that I felt just might have a
little something "extra" in it -- maybe a gift that kept on giving....)
