Are other people having trouble installing additions on a
(virtual) disk?

After my initial installation of Virtual PC 6 (on OS X Panther edition),
I upgraded promptly to 6.1.1. Then, I installed Windows XP which finally
became unusable for some unknown reason; so I deleted the instance of the
Win XP and virtual disk.

Then I created another disk... installed Windows 2000 which runs
much better performance wise... I upgraded it "all over" and would hate
to hears that I will lose all that config time due to not installing
the "additions" before the OS... Ugh..

I see that I need this "Additions" installation for disk sharing
fucntionality btwn the Mac OS and the Windows PC. However, Any
attempt to install, it this complains about itself not typically installed
into anything but a Guest User (whatever that is)...

Can someone with more experience with Virtual PC shed some light?

thx!

Cheers,
DK

PS: Apologies for the cross-post by at the moment of posting, I am told my
news provider, esaynews, they do not know about
"microsoft.public.mac.virtualpc"... that seems wrong...

You should post questions regarding the Mac version of VPC in the
virtualpc.mac newsgroup.  This newsgroup is for the Windows version.

You install the Additions inside VPC, not on the Mac.    Click the
puzzle piece icon (p.9 in the manual) in the toobar tray to install
the additions.  You must be logged into Windows as an Administrator,
Windows must be running and it must be showing the desktop.

You should go to msnews.microsoft.com. That's Microsoft's
news server that everyone else feeds off of. Microsoft
also provides a web interface to their newsgroups as
well. I seem to remember a link to the Mac newsgroups
from their main Mac page.

You need to log into Windows as an Administrator to
install the Additions.

Beyond that, I can only point you to the Mac group.

Disregard the first part of my post about the Windows newsgroup.  I
was looking at the wrong header.

I am pretty sure that Additions is a Windows installation and so it
dsoes not matter when you install it. My main purpose in replaying is
that suggest you make a backup copy of the vpc file - just in case...

My *.vpc6 files are in <home>:documents:virtual PC list
They easily fit on a DVD for backup purposes.

Try to install additions another time.
Then go to my computer and you will see additions on the CD device.
Double click on it. It will install and load the additions completely.
After that, restart the PC.
And you will  be able to install shared folders and what you want.
Have you see the document to optimize XP with VPC ?
If not, go to a thread called slow in these forums.

I believe your update is badly done. And it's because of that you get
problems.
For the update of VPC 6.1 in VPC 6.1.1,you have in Windows to stop the
PC and not to save it (it's explained
in the please read me of the update) and then, you're in the Mac side
now, you could update VPC 6.1 in VPC 6.1.1
If you don't make so, the update will not  install or install badly.

Here is the read me for the update:
