This will not make the virtual hard disk any larger in its virtual size (as
perceived by Windows), it will only make the VHD file on the host PC as
large as the virtual hard disk it represents.
If your hard disk is full, you need to create a new VHD which is larger,
then copy all the files from the original to the new one.
A virtual hard disk stays the same virtual size for ever. It cannot expand
its virtual size, any more than a real hard disk can.
