Samba. Depends on what you selected during the installation. You'll
still need to configure Samba to your network.
The single best solution I've seen to Samba and Linux is Xandros 2.
Its the only version of Linux that I've used that configures samba
correctly for filesharing. Also, its the only version of Linux that I
was ever able to get to print to my Windows-shared printer.

Well, I really need to use the redhat9 to run some scientific software.
I'll describe my case:
At first, I'm a MacOS X guy :-)
I have a soft that only runs on the different flavors of unix (Linux,
Iris,SunOS, MacOS X..). One of my forreign student want to use it at
home (in her country) where she got a PC running WinXP Pro with an
internet access through a DHCP server. Since that student is not a
computer geek, I thought that the easy way was to install a redhat with
virtualPC and configure everything myself. Then, she'll just have to
install Virtual PC 2004 on her PC, and create a new virtual machine from
a copy of the virtual hard disk I set up.
The installation of Redhat9 from the isos went just fine. The redhat in
VirtualPC get its IP from the same DHCP server as XP. The IP address of
the Redhat is distinct than the one of WinXP.
I configured my scientific software which runs perfectly from a terminal
in WinXP (I use putty) using a ssh session.
The only things I need to set up is an easy way to transfer data files
from the virtual hard disk to her personal directory (and the other way
around). I just figured out reading this forum and the FAQ, that samba
was my best bet. I managed to setup the samba server
(redhat-samba-config) and shared a folder, (/home/herusername). But when
I use "add network place" to connect to the samba server using
\\RedhatIP\herusername, the wizard freeze and does not respond anymore.
Moreover, I can perfectly ping or open an ssh session on the Redhat
from my Mac.
Do you see anything wrong?
