Windows Forum / Windows XP / 64-bit / December 2005which computers can run the 64bits edition?
hi! i have a HP t649.fi pavillion pc, it has a AMD Athlon +3200 prosessor- i seem to remember that the prosessor is a 64bits one, but it always says i cant install the windows 64 trial version. so is my computer compatible? that is my question... How are you launching Windows XP Professional x64 setup? If its from within an existing installation of Windows XP such as XP Home or Professional 32-bit, you will get that message. Windows XP Professional x64 requires a clean install which means you will have to boot off the CD and install on a clean hard disk. Seems like yours is not 64-bit per the HP site. Your computer does not have 64-bit CPU. The ASUS A7V8X-LA motherboard is a socket A and there are no 64-bit socket A CPUs. You have an Athlon 3200+, about 3 to 4 years old and a 32 bit processor. You *must* have a 64 bit processor in order to install the 64 bit version of Windows XP Pro. Bobby |
