I have a View Sonic Graphics Series G220 monitor, I chose it for the high
resolutions, I need these for digital photography and games.  Vista Ultimate
64 bit has installed a generic driver and will not allow View Sonic's
microsoft signed drivers to install or update.  Help!

As the ViewSonic downloads section for the G220fb notes, "Signed drivers are
available only for Windows® Me, 2000 and XP."  Nothing for Vista x64, which
does require signed drivers.  Given the year the monitor was first sold,
there may not be any new drivers written.  In any case, contact ViewSonic
support for info on their intentions to support this line with 64-bit
drivers.

Thank you for your response. This is the driver I am refering to:
"Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Vista_x64   Download Now

Size: 1956KB
Product(s): LCDs and CRTs
Operating System(s): Windows Vista x64
Driver/Utility: Monitor
More Information

 Last modified: 11/09/2007 03:48:49 PM"

I have also tried the unsigned dirver suggested by view sonic.  Vista
informs me it has the best driver but this limits me to displaying
photographs at 1600 x 1200 far below the monitor's spec.

Many x64 drivers have limitations yet.  Contact the manufacturer.

Thankjs for your reply.  I did contact View Sonic and I was told it didn't
make any difference which driver was installed.  The issue was my video
adapters were the source of the problem.  I have ATI 1900 series Crossfire
graphics adapters (2) and had installed the latest drivers and utilites.  So
I uninstalled Catalyst Control Center and all ATI software.  This is what
fixed the issue.  I right clicked on the desktop and went to 'Personalize'.
Then selected Display Settings went to Advanced Settings and to Monitor and
unchecked 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display.  This restored the
correct resolution range for my Graphic Series monitor.  Now I can reinstall
the ATI software.  Thanks for your help.

tom2218,
Monitor drivers are just *.inf files in plain text format which describe the
monitor capabilities.
If I were you I would grab the 32-bit inf file and "decorate" it for 64-bit
as described here:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/install/64INF_reqs.mspx
It is a very easy procedure and my best guess is that you will be successful.
:)
