I was in MS Dos and had to hurriedly power down.  Now when
I boot, I go back into DOS and cannot fire up Windows 95.
Typing exit prodces a prompt that asks me if I want to
return to Windows.  Answering Yes gets the main logo
screen but then right back to a DOS prompt.  Rebooting
gets the same result.  Help!  Thanks for sharing your
thoughts.

Try "win  /wx".

Ben:  Thanks for the reply.  I tried this and get the same
result:  Logo screen for a second followed by a return to
DOS prompt.  The command "win /wx" is the last line of my
autoexec.bat.  Any further thoughts you have would be
appreiciated.  Thanks again.

Open "c:\config.sys" and look for "dos=single".  If you find
it, remove it, save the change and restart.  I also suggest you
remove "win  /wx" from the "autoexec.bat" file.

Ben:  I had the Dos=single line, and I removed it.  Ditto
with win /wx.  Rebooted and got the same result.
continued thanks for your interest and efforts.  Do you
have any other suggestions?  Let me know your thoughts.

Make sure the computer has a valid "c:\msdos.sys" file,
something like this:

[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C
[Options]
BootGUI=1
;end

Ben:  It has the file.  It is Read Only, and has the exact
lines you suggested with one addition.  Under OPTIONS, it
has an additional line that reads BootMulti=0, followed by
BootGUI=1.  Should I alter this file in any way? I await
your next direction.  Thanks for your patience and
suggestions.  Matt

Open "autoexec.bat" and look for "call  command.com".  If
you find it remove it.  Also, make sure there is no "c:\winboot.ini"
file.

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!   TOTAL SUCCESS!!!!
I removed the command.com file reference.  There was no
winboot.ini file.  I can't thank you enough.  I never ever
could have gotten here on my own.  Let me know if there is
anything I can do to repay the debt.  Thanks again Ben.
