I'm trying to reinstall a different copy of Windows 95 on
my sons computer(Compaq Presario 2200).It says "sector
reading drive A". I hit retry, and was asked if I would
like to format drive C.I responded yes. Screen now
reads "Divide error  Invalid hard drive or read eror
Please contact technical support!   A:\>     Also on the
top of the screen it reads "following file missing or
corrupted: HIMEM.SYS      There is an error in your
CONFIG.SYS file on line 1. Any and all help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The message suggests either that the BIOS has been set incorrectly or
that the harddrive is unusual and requires special handling in some
way. I would go into BIOS and reset it to the default values on the
premise that these almost certainly describe the harddisk correctly.

You  might also consider consulting Compaq tech support. I have no
personal experience with Compaq, but another technically knowledgeable
person has said that Compaq often modifies Windows to suit its
hardware, which might suggest that the hardware is not compatible with
Microsoft's generic software.
