someone tried to install windows98 ontopof(i think)win95
in my old satellite toshiba laptop (bought in 1995), Now
it won't start either one. It says it's starting win98
when i boot it, but then all i get is the c:/DOS screen.
I think that not all the win98 files weren't completely
copied into the hard drive due to lack of space or
something, even though NOW the harddrive appears to have
almost nothing in it. where did the win 95setup/startup
files go and can I switch back to my original system
settings? I tried to use a rescue disk but i get an
error message saying that the DOS version is incorrect to
fix whatever. HELP! I don't want to have to trash my
laptop, despite it's ancientness. And if i have to pick
up a new harddrive I'm gonna throw the whole old thing
against the wall. HELP me restore my old version of win.

If there are no files you need to keep on the machine, then you can start
from a clean disk. Get a utility at www.bootdisk.com to create a boot
floppy, start it up to DOS and use FDISK to delete all existing partitions
on the drive and create a new partition. Then run SETUP off the W95 CD, or
do your system recovery.
You should visit the Toshiba site to get the drivers required for your
machine.

>At the c:/DOS screen type windows.ext or win98.exe or
win98.ext press enter and if something comes up try the
help icon to locate and change errors make sure to have a
disk for copying

None of those command will help. It's possible that typing WIN at the DOS
prompt will get Windows started, but it's not likely and in any case it
won't help the problem that Windows isn't starting by itself.
