We have a computer that's several years old, with a
Windows 95 program. It was working fine until the other
day, when we stupidly decided to delete a bunch of old
files and folders. Unfortunately, somehow we must have
deleted a file that was necessary to launch the Windows
program. Now, when we turn on the computer, it's in DOS.
We have both a Windows 95 startup CD and a disk, and we've
tried both of them, thinking we could just re-install the
program. But each time, when it comes up in DOS and says
C:\ and we type in a:\setup for the disk or b:\win95
\setup, as described in the Windows 95 manual, nothing
happens.
We can't get the program re-installed or re-started.
The only hint we've got is that it we have seen it say:
c:\windows\system\vmm32\IFSMGRVXD. But even if we figure
out what file we deleted, we can't get the program started
up....
Please help!!!! My email is jbbsun@hotmail.com.
Thank you.

while the machine is booting up
hit the F5 key and see if you can get into safe mode...
then restore the files from the recycle bin
if you cannot get it going and have to install windows again
your best bet would be to install over the original C:\windows folder
in addition to your cd you will need a cd support bootdisk
which you can get from www.bootdisk.com
