Hello from New Zealand.

I inherited a P1 machine from a tenant who could not pay
his rent. Well the machine has Win95, which runs but is
often slowed down from processing commands by some problem
which makes the hard drive whir away, with the light
indicating the hard drive is working, even though there is
no noticeable reason for it to be accessing the hard
drive. This can go on for a minute or more then it stops
and resumes normal operation until the next episode.

Well I have been able to pre-empt the loading of win95 by
pressing F8 on boot up and use the "dos prompt only"
option, and the fault does not seem to occur when in this
mode so I have presumed it is a software problem,
specifically with Win95. Unfortunately I do not have the
windows95 CD to reload programme.

I am at SPOverall@hotmail.com

Have a good Christmas and New Year everyone.

WIthout further information, it could be just about anything -- including
mal-ware, virus, misconfiguration, or age.

If you really want to save the current config, hit ctrl-alt-del, and tell us
what is in the task manager.

Do a defrag, scandisk, virus scan (http://housecall.antivirus.com, if your
don't have a scanner or feel that the onboard signatures are out of date)
and install ad-aware.

Dump the temp and temporary internet folders.

Or, purchase a copy of win98, format the drive, and start over.

Good advice...
Try shutting down one app at a time so you can trace what might be causing
that activity. (All you need to keep runing is explorer)
