A friend of mine was "fixing" my comupter to make it
compatible for work, and I think he deleted a lot of my
stuff.  I was working with Windows 95, and decided since
he had screwed some stuff up that I would download the
Windows 98 CD rom.  This CD rom came with the computer and
did not have the product ID code, so now I cannot install
the Windows 98 CD.

Any ideas on how I can restore Windows 95 or get hold of a
Windows 98 Product Code?
thanks
Kelly

You mean when the computer is first turned on, just keep
hitting the space bar and something will come up on the
screen that will allow me to type Scanreg/restore?
Sorry if I seem uneducated about this, but I don't know
how to fix these types of problems at all and just want to
make sure I do it right...
please confirm
thanks
Kelly

I am not sure this person is your friend. If key Windows 95 files are
missing, you will need to reinstall Windows 95 from a CD-ROM.

It is unclear to me whether you have the Win95 CD-ROM that is
associated with this computer. If you do, the Product ID is stored in
the copy of Windows that is installed on the machine. Can you start
Windows 95 so that you can record this product ID?

The installation files for Windows 98 are not available for download.
If you want to change to Win98 and this computer is capable of running
Win98, you need to obtain a Win98 CD-ROM. Some people are still
selling these. Search the Internet.

One person has advised you to restore the Registry. Restoring the
Registry will not replace missing files. It might just make the
current situation even more difficult.
