Hi, I have OS win95, upgraded to Win98SE. I need to
uninstall both OS & then reinstall them. The problem is
I've been told I need the drivers & utility disk. I don't
have it! I have everything else & I only have a floppy for
win/95 intel support driver ver.A. Don't know what that
is but they said it's not what I need. Everything on my
computer (drives) were factory installed. If I proceed
w/out this utility disk, will I be ok? I don't know if the
drives will remain or be gone. Any help would be great.
Thanks for your time.
If you have W95 and a W98SE upgrade disk, you do NOT need to install W95
first. You can install W98 SE to a blank disk. The process will ask for
your W95 CD to prove you are eligible for the upgrade, but W95 is not
installed.
Windows 98SE should install to almost any system without requiring special
drivers. Some laptops that come with their own OEM version of Windows are an
exception. However, most systems will need additional drivers in order to
function properly - such as video drivers to get higher resolution or more
colours, or motherboard drivers to use the motherboard devices at their full
capability. It is much easier to get these drivers before doing the
re-install, as an internet connection might be difficult with a system
running on default drivers. If you have another PC available for searching
and downloading the required drivers, then it's not as important.
