Unwanted shortcuts

Some objectionable shortcuts have appeared on the desktop
of our family computer.  Things like 'Viagra Videos'.
Although I can remove the shortcut, each time I restart
the computer, they reappear.  The objectionable ones
appear in a group after the main ones have appeared.  At
the same time a message comes up "Windows script
Host'  /c:\WINDWS\system32\rundll32.vbe  Source Microsoft
VBScript runtime error."
There seems to be some sort of programme running also, as
I can't shut down the computer without 'end task'.
I have tried 'settings-start-remove etc, but no luck.
I would really appreciate any advice as to how I can
permanently remove these shortcuts.

Sounds like a virus of some sort to me. Try running an antivirus scan; if
you need a good, free program, get AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/

In addition to the virus check, you may wish to run an
anti-scumware program such as Adaware or Spybot.
