Upon starting Win95 I get an error for Start Program that says "A required
.DDL file, WS2_32.DLL, was not found".  After clicking OK 3 times the
message disappears and I start up fine even to access the Internet.

This just started today out of the blue, never seen before in last 2 years.
I have DUN 1.4 installed and I thought the file related to Winsock 2 which
is included in the DUN1.4.

How do I stop the message from popping up.  Thanks,
Frank

It sounds like the file is missing or damaged and cannot load.  Use the SFC
utility to extract a new copy of the file.  The DUN 1.4 update does not
include this file.

Oh dear!

I was hoping nobody would notice the little faux pas as I wasn't going
to correct my favorite buddy.

Not only is there no SFC in Win95 as pointed out, but WS2_32.DLL is
not in the Win95 CD anyway.

Part of a standard post....

It comes with Win98 and Win ME but not Win95.

It also comes with the Winsock2 update
http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/default.asp

ws2_32.dll is the Winsock2 Update for Win95.

gTools/W95Sockets2/Default.asp

Also linked on that page is the Year 2000 Update for Winsock2 which
must be installed afterwards.

I downloaded Windows 95 Dial-up Networking 1.4 upgrade but I continue to
receive a Start Program error say the WS2_32.DLL file can not be found.
Your reply pointed me to DUN 1.3.  Would the DUN 1.4 the winsock 2 file as
well.  I still get the Start Program error message saying WS2_32.DLL is not
found.

I have another problem with my Windows Explorer not working so I was
thinking of clearing my C drive and re-installing Windows 95 to get a fresh
start.

Please let me know if that is a good idea and where to go for details.

Thanks for your help, Frank

I was able to install the WS2_32.DLL by downloading W95ws2setup.exe and the
problem is solved.  Thanks for helping me.
