I have been trying to reinstall windows 95 without
success.  When I get to the prompt that asks for the
product ID, I enter my ID from the the certificate of
authenticity that includes OEM it then tells me that this
number in invaild.

If you had windows pre-installed, the OEM may have used a different
number.
If Win95 is still running, then look in Control Panel-System.
If not, do a search in either C:\System.1st or C:\Windows\System.dat
for "ProductId"
e.g. C:\Windows\Command\Find /I "ProductId" C:\Windows\System.dat
