I don't know where to start!!  Scandisk fails, I tried formatting my drive, but it fails and brings me to my A: then when I reboot, it says "missing operating system"  fine, then I go to setup and it says it already has an operating system, so then I click on "replace", then I get a message "Invalid media type reading drive c: "  I have gotten every message available.  Please!!!!!  someone help me
All I want to do is do a clean install.

If you can't scan the drive and you can't format the drive and the media
type is invalid then the drive has failed. Check the obvious things like the
cables and connections and the setting in BIOS setup, then get some hard
disk drive diagnostics from the manufacturer's www site and use them to
identify the state of the drive and whether it's repairable. It's very
important that you don't write anything to the drive until you are sure it
is working properly, as this will make things worse.

I tried fixing the BIOS, but when I F8 at startup, it beeps and gives me an error message.  When it is trying to format, it gets stuck at cluster 961-965 and it formats the 2nd partition, but fails when it is trying to restore.  AAAAHHHHH!!!!
I have forgotten some of my DOS commands.  Some that I do, come back with and unknown command.  This is for a IBM Thinkpad 770.

You can't format a faulty disk.  What was the result from running the
manufacturer's diagnostics?  What is the BIOS error message?
