Everytime I try to add new software (i.e. AOL, Windows ME) I get an error reading :  Fatal Exception OE has occured at ______________ in V x D VFAT (01)...etc.  Can any one help me understand this? I thought it was a RAM shortage situation, but I have about 95% of my system free. I know it's a "granny" PC, but i want to get it running. It's got a 2.0 GB HD; 128MB, 1.66GHz Processor - I'd live to at least be able to upgrade AOL to 7.0...ANY POINTERS would be appreciated

Thank You.

I suggest you take this to a Windows ME newsgroup where ME's special needs
can be best met. Here are some that may be suitable for this particular
question:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsme.general
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsme.new-user
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsme.setup
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsme.software

Get a list of MS newsgroups for a wide range of purposes (and direct links
to them for your newsreader) here:

But Thank-you jim for the info i'll use later

Any other suggestions would help especially on the errors i'm recieving.

My apologies. I misunderstood. I thought your prior post stated you have
Windows ME. I now suppose it to mean that you were trying to install ME,
correct?

Since you (apparently) want to install ME anyway, and since this appears to
be a corruption of your existing Win 95 system, maybe the best approach is
to install Win ME as a second operating system - alongside 95. Don't try to
launch it from inside of WIndows. Get a Win98 boot disk from
www.bootdisk.com and boot from the floppy, then launch the Win ME CD from
the command line. I suspect the problem you are now reporting will vanish
from ME. To install two Windows versions so you can dual boot between them,
see this article:
