OK, horrible mistake on laptop when trying to install
Win95. Have formatted the drive and now the CDROM won't
read the Win95 installation disk. I need to install win95
on the laptop but have no idea how to do it if the CDROM
isn't reading the installation disk.
Please help!

I'm terribly sorry for the situation you are in. I will
try my best to help. :-)
It seems like you did not create a boot disk. In order to
install Windows 95 successfully is you must obtain a boot
disk. You can obtain a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com,
there you should download the Windows 98se boot disk which
should give Windows 95 a stable installment.
Once receiving the boot disk you must put the boot disk
into your disk drive. When the boot disk is in the
process of booting, you will see 4 options. Choice "Boot
with cd-rom support". When doing this you'll see an A:/
prompt. Put the Windows 95 cd in your driver and then
type in D:. It will boot up to D:/ and once you're at the
D:/ prompt, type in 'Setup'. After this you should see a
message that Windows 95 is setting up.
Hope this was a great help and hope that you'll be running
Windows 95! :-)
P.S. Make sure you have all you drivers handy for your
laptop.

If you mean that you are booting to a startup floppy and the CD is
recognised and the drivers installed, but you get an error message when you
try to access the CD to install Windows, then perhaps the CD drive is dirty
or faulty and should be cleaned, repaired or replaced.
If you are trying to start the setup program but you get an error message,
then double check that you are using the correct drive letter in the command
line - the drive letter to use should be displayed on screen during the boot
process, but note that it may be different than the drive letter used for
the CD in Windows.
If you mean that you are inserting the CD in the drive and booting the
machine, then boot from a floppy instead. Get a utility to create a boot
floppy at www.bootdisk.com. This boot disk will probably use R for the CD
drive letter, but watch the screen during startup to confirm this.

>Bev - sounds like you committed the cardinal sin - you
erased your hard drive before you tested the CD-rom! What
often happens with Win95 is that it doesn't recognize old
CD-rom drives. Make sure that you are using a correct
floppy boot disk. Try using a Win98 boot disk.
