Carl:
What Kind of disk does it ask for???
If it is asking for a "System Disk" it is possible the battery that
maintains the clock and hardware descriptions is dead. Watch the screen
during the start process and look for a message something like 'Press
Del to Enter Setup" If you hit the "Del" key befort it gets too far
along you will be dumped into the BIOS setup program. See if the clock
and date are incorrect. If so the battery is dead and will have to be
replaced. After it is replaced you will have to enter setup again and
use the "Auto Detect Hard Drive Parameters" (or simular) function to
properly identify your hard drive to the system. If you are luckey you
should be able to boot normaly after that.

Carl:
"Port 1" sounds like a "Comm Port' a.k.a. a serial port. Older mice and
modems are serial devices and if they try to use the same port settings
SOMETHING will not work. Wouldn't usually keep you from booting though.
Have you changed the mouse or where it is plugged into after it was in
storage?
If all else fails you can reduce the system to the absolutely minimum
needed to boot to DOS from a floppy. This usually means removing sound
cards, CD-drives, modems, and anything else not needed. Once you can get
to a DOS prompt from a floppy you can start reinstalling things till the
error reoccures and then you know what to investigate.
