Hi All,

My boys desktop response became very slow and the hard
disc appeared to be running in the background all the
time. On dowloading and running one of the ad-aware free
scan programs it identified numerous diallers/parasites
etc. I therefore tried unsuccessfully to download
Lavasoft.Ad-aware.6181. Then, thinking it might be a virus
I tried unsuccessfully to download Trend Micro Housecall.

At that stage I could speed up the machine my closing all
running programs with the exception of Explorer and was
able to access the internet.

Now my big mistake - I thought that perhaps Windows 95 may
have been corrupted in some way and thought I would
reinstall Windows 95 from the CD-Rom. Having completed the
reinstall without first uninstalling, I received the
following message:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shdocvw.dll
Missing entry:InstallReg_RunDLL

Not ot be put off I contacted my Internet service provider
to reconnect but part way through the reconnect procedure
received the following message:

The INETWIZ.EXE file is linked to missing export
INETCFG.DLL:LaunchSignupWizard@8

Followed by another message:

A device attached to the system is not working.

On contacting aushelp@microsoft.com I was advised to
uninstall and then reinstall Windows 95 and to visit the
Microsoft Knowledge Base wherein I found an article on how
to uninstall Windows 95, namely:

1. Start the computer with a Windows 95 Start-up disc and
then run Uninstal.exe;
2. Start the computer with a command prompt, or the
previous operating system, and then Uninstal.exe; and
3. Click the Start button, click Run, and then type
uninstal.exe in the open box.

Unfortunately neither 1 nor 3 work and I am not sure how
to do 2.

Does anyone have any suggestions I how I can Uninstall
Windows 95?

Cheers,

Jeff Abbott

backup any data you may need to keep

then bootup with your floppy and issue the command    format C:

that will totally erase the drive so you can start fresh

it sounds like the easy way out is to format and reinstall.
start pc with floppy inserted at a:> prompt type c: then
press enter. now type format c:/s then press enter.
after all info is gone load the 95cd type e: press enter.
because now e: is your cd-rom type dir press enter check
that the info on the screen is the win 95 disc . now at
the bottom of the screen type setup it will ask for volume
label ( the name u would give your pc ). the pc should do
a scandisk and the go on with the setup.
