I was curious if there is a limit on how much RAM a
computer can have which runs Windows 98SE.

My PC runs fine with 512 meg RAM, but when I tried to
upgrade to 1 gig, it would only boot to safe mode.

Thanks.

If you use more than 512 mb of RAM with Windows 95/98/98SE/Me the you
must limit the amount of RAM that can be mapped for use as disk cache
in order to avoid false "out of memory" type errors and other related
problems.

Add the following line to the [vcache] section of the system.ini file:

MaxFileCache=512000

Then shut down the machine, upgrade the RAM to 1 gb again, and see if
that resolves the problem.

Good luck
