I had to put in a bigger HD in my parent's computer.  The
only full OS system we have to start with is Win95 setup
CD as the rest of my windows os disks are all upgrades.
It gets going on the setup and then brings up a message
that says:

Boot Sector Write!!
VIRUS: Continue (y/n)?

But when I press the Y button nothing happens.

Can someone help me?  Please email me ASAP

So install one of the upgrades and put the 95 cd in when it wants to see the
qualifying software.

Disable the virus protection in your BIOS.  See your motherboard maker for
instructions.

Does the old HD still work and boot?
You may want to try what I did with mine (no guarantees it'll work for you)...

-----------------------------------------------

Made sure I had a bootable floppy with FDISK.EXE on it.

Installed and jumpered the new HD as "slave" (D:), original as "master" (C:).

Fdisked and formatted the new drive, with "system files" copied to it.

Made sure Explorer was set to show all files, and not hide anything.

Opened Explorer, went to C:\ and selected everything EXCEPT "Windows".

Dragged the whole mess to D: and watched a million files/folders get copied over.

Created an empty "Windows" folder on D:

Went into C:\Windows and selected everything EXCEPT the swap file (win386.swp).

Dragged it all to D:\Windows and watched another million files/folders get copied.

Shut down the system, re-jumpered new big drive as master, old as slave.

Booted up with floppy, used Fdisk to set the new drive as "active".

Took out floppy, rebooted.

Rejoiced when it booted using the new bigger drive as C:, and promptly
started filling it up with more crap.   :)

As Kay said, turn off virus protection in the BIOS.

that's correct

you do *not*  need to install win95 first

just install win98 (or whatever) upgrade you have

you will just need to win95 cd to serve as a qualifying product
