I have been given a Compaq laptop running windows 95, as well as the docking
station. It has 2 pc cards in it. One is: US Robotics Megahertz33.6 PCMCIA
Fax/Modem with XJack Connector, Data/Fax . The other is: Etherlink III Lan
PC Card for 10 Base-T and Coax #3C589D.   These both show in COM2 as modems.
Now if I just had a clue as to what these are I'd be fine. I THINK that one
is for using wireless and one is for using a cable hook-up.  The laptop has
AOL loaded on it but I can't seem to find a modem so I can connect using a
dial-up.  Shouldn't I have something that says 56k modem? Sorry to sound so
lame. I'm trying to clean this up so I can use the laptop while on vacation
so I don't go thru e-mail withdrawal.  I don't really want to completely
reformat the machine since it has Office on it and no CD burner. I know (I
think?) the machine came with a 56k modem but not sure how to get it to
recognize the modem. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You seem to have a US Robotics 33.6K modem instead of a 56K modem.
Why not use that?

Would you believe....I didn't know that it could be used! LOL! After I
pulled it out of the laptop, I noticed a little "button" on the side of it.
Turns out it is the little thingy for the phone line! What a deal! I now
have a modem! Hooray! And I can even connect to AOHell! Thanks for all the
help!
