Problem: Regedit runs in Windows for one second and shuts down.

Runs as normal in Safe mode.--Nothing in Run, RO,RS, etc. that
I can see.

McAfee finds no viruses, Spybot finds no problems.

Extracted a new copy of Explorer.exe.--no change

No Policies are set that can be read w/ Poledit.

Haven't used it in weeks. Only added app was Ad-Aware
yesterday.

Suggestions welcomed.

Please don't post the same question multiple times.

Rename Regedit.EXE to Regedit.COM and try again using Start / Run.  Extract
a new copy of Regedit.EXE using SFC. Use Ctr+Alt+Del to see whether it has
really closed or has just disappeared from the screen.  Make sure all other
windows are closed so that you will be sure to see any error messages.

Since it runs in safe mode then something loading in normal mode is causing
the problem.  Look here for information about starting a minimal Windows
system. You can add back components into the startup until you identify the
one that causes the problem.

My apology for the multiple posts. It was also part of the problem, no posts
appeared in the NG altho I could read other posts.

Although Mcafee found nothing, something had added a file which was identified
in the Run key as a 'Winsock2 Upgrade' and loaded a *.SCR file. Sorry I didn't
save it so can't give the name. Cleaned up the Key, deleted the *.SCR file and
all is well.

I unpacked the MS Wsock2 upgrade install file and no .scr  is there so it is
some trash from outside.

Thanks to all,

Dick
