I have an older computer that has become very "buggy"
after years of use.  Now that I have a new computer I want
to reformat the hard drive on the old machine.  It's a
Pentium II which came with Win 95 installed.  I upgraded
to Win 98 (upgrade version).

I found on-line information for how to reformat a hard
drive. I'm assuming I'll have to re-load Win 95 then do
the Win 98 upgrade.  Is this correct?  Any other advice
before I attempt this?

Thanks!

No, you do not have to install win95 and then upgrade.

You can install the win98 upgrade directly as a clean install. Actually,
this would be the recommended approach in most cases. (there are
exceptions). During the early part of the win98 installation the setup
program will look for a qualifying product to update. It will not find one
on the harddrive. You will at this point insert the win95 CD. Then setup
will be happy and continue on.
