I hope someone can help me with this problem.

I've been trying to install an embroidery editing program
on the small laptop I use to run my machine. The laptop
runs Win95, which is much better for running the
embroidery machine software. It does not have an internet
connection.

I used a SmartMedia card to transfer the program self-
extracting file I downloaded to the laptop. This file
installed beautifully on my desktop computer
(Win98), but when I click on it on the laptop, it goes
through the unzipping process, but I get an "Error 0"
message.

It does put a folder in the Windows Temp folder, which has
SetUp.exe, but when I click on this I get two error
windows. One says "the SetUP.EXE file is linked to missing
export SHELL.DLL:SHGetSpecialFolderPathA". The other
says "A device attached to the system is not functioning".
My understanding is that it needs a newer version of the
Shell32.dll. I have a newer version on my big computer,
but I'm not sure if I can transfer it to the other on
without messing things up.

I realize this is a unique problem caused by my particular
systems, but if there is anyone who knows of a way to fix
it, I would really
appreciate it.

Try putting the newer version of the DLL in the same directory as your
SetUP.EXE file that's throwing the error. That way SetUP.EXE will be
able to find it, but other programs will continue to use the older
one.
