Hi,

After buying a Digital Camera for Xmas from PC World, I
came to setup the device on my Windows 95 machine.

It didn't work!

I went back to PC World who suggested that I would require
a firewire port to be installed, he suggested a new
machine maybe the better option.

Can someone please give me more detail as to whether this
firewire port will make a difference if I have Windows 95?
Also, how much is this all gonna cost?

Thanks,

What are the System Requirements, as listed on the side of the box the camera came in?
Is Firewire required for it to connect?

Whether Firewire or USB, you will need at least Windows 98SE, and also a USB or Firewire port, whichever is required.

Add-on ports are available on PCI cards, but your machine must meet PCI bus 2.1 standards, which an older Win95 machine *may* not.

Even if you add a port, you need at least Win98SE to support it.

WIN95 does not support Firewire, plain & simple. Actually, in this case
I think getting a new machine *is* a better option. Anything to do with
video editing and high end graphics work you need a 1gig MHZ or
higher CPU to really be satisfied with performance.

If this is a digital still camera, then forget about trying to connect it to
a W95 PC.  Instead, find a card reader for the memory card it uses that is
compatible with W95. This might be a parallel port card reader, or one that
interfaces like a floppy disk drive, or a PCMCIA device if you have a PCMCIA
port.
