I have an old Win95 computer sitting in my basement
collecting dust!!  It's not plugged in or anything because
i was using it just as a back-up computer should something
happened to my other computer which has Win98.
Anyway....before i unplugged it and tucked it away...i was
having a problem with it.  The Win95 splashscreen would
come up but just hang there.  At the time, I was in this
thread looking for solutions to fix it when my sister gave
me her computer so I just unplugged the darn thing.  I
would like to get it up and running so i could give it to
a friend of mine who doesn't have a computer and can't
afford one.  The original problem was something to do with
missing or corrupted files in (I believe) IFSHLP and
another file (can't remember the name).  Then..I started a
thread here back in (I believe) Oct. about DoubleSpace
bin.  Some kind of error message about that.  I was
wondering if I could delete Win95 (if I already didn't do
that) and install Win98 on that computer....or...if I can
just re-install Win95 on that computer.  I have the
original System Disk, CD, and boot floppy for it.  If
so....how?  And if I can upgrade to Win98...can I download
a bootfloppy from Bootdisk.com and install it from there?

I think I;d just format the drive and reinstall win95...
although if you have enough RAM   ...win98 would prob work too.

when your machine is booting up,
you should see the ram being counted up in the bios

you should have at least 32 megs for win98...but ideally  64 megs or more.

win98 can be installed by either booting from the cd or using a boot floppy

you can get a cd support bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com

the file you download, when run will create a bootdisk on a blank
floppy

when you bootup with it...
it should detect your cd rom and assign the drive letter R:

if that works ok...to format your drive just issue the command    format C:

after the drive is formatted...to install windows

just put the drive in your cdrom  then   type and enter    R:

now just type and enter       setup
and your installtion should begin

Thanx.....I will try that.
