I am unable to download any downloads, service paches etc
from the net. When I try, acrobat pops up, loads and then
closes the download page.  My acrobat preferences are set
for opening on web.  Any help?

I'd say that you might try uninstalling acrobat reader for the meantime, as
your MIME extensions seem to be messed up.  An uninstall might reset them to
defaults.

If not, we can try to ftp a browser from somewhere via command line and
install it.
