Have tried every fix on the knowledge base with not luck.
Think I have narrowed it down to a bad entry in the
Sytem.ini or win.ini files but ain't near smart enough to
figure out what to look for. Anyone out there any help? I
am running a AMD processor (1.4gb) with a new board and HP
Pavillion drives. It is a retail copy of WIN95 verion
4.00.950 and the ntkern.vxd file is completely missing. I
have had no luck finding a copy of it as my newer machine
dosen't have the file at all. Can someone email the driver?

MJ,

Not sure if this will help but I recall there was an update required for
Win95 machines using AMD processors over 150 MHz. That patch needs to be
installed at least for performance not sure about your specific problem.
You could check the MSKB or at your motherboard manuf site.

As Fred mentioned, an update was issued for these problems.....however, the update is only for Windows 95B and C, not for the original version of Win95, or for Win95A.  You say your version is 4.00.950, which is the original version.  You must have 4.00.950B or 4.00.950C to use the patches.

I'm also running 4.00.950, and there's no NTKERN.VXD here (and
it's not listed in the .CABs, either). Are you sure you need it?

...so no surprise; NTKERN.VXD is added by the "USB Suppliment" (needed
to support USB *and* AGP) which only works on Win95 SR2.  A newer
NTKERN.VXD is integrated into Win98, Win98SE and WinME.

If that's an old AMD K6 with 1.4G HD (you did say "1.4GB"?) then you
may have a problem if CPU > 300MHz.  If that's a new AMD 1.4GHz
system, then you will deffo have a problem... the only way you'd
likely to be able to run original Win95 would be within a virtual PC,
hosted by XP or whatever.

Try slowing the processor to a lower speed.  If this doesn't help
or can't be done, download
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/patch/1.2/w95/en-us/amdk6upd.exe
Open the file with Winzip and extract "esdi_506.pdr" and "scsiport.pdr" to a floppy.
Start the problem computer, insert the floppy and type the following two lines.  Then
type "win" to start Windows.

copy  /y  a:\esdi_506.pdr  c:\windows\system\iosubsys
copy  /y  a:\scsiport.pdr  c:\windows\system\iosubsys
