My son has an old Pentium ll / 256KHz with 6GB HD and 64 MB RAM.

I know I can upgrade to Windows 98 (2nd Edition) but can I upgrade to
Windows ME without the computer becoming painfully slow?

I would stick with 98SE, WinME was not that great a OS,  but yes you could
upgrade
