I need recommendations on Anti-Virus and Anti-SpyWare and Adware
programs that will run under Windows 95. Looks like anti-virus
programs by Norton and McAfee now require Win98 and higher. Can anyone
recommend good alternatives? Same with spyware/adware. Ad-Aware and
SpyBot both want Win98. Anybody using something that works just as
well and that they like? Thanks in advance.

You could try Norton AV 2001 or SystemWorks 2001. I just installed Norton SystemWorks 2001 in my Win95 OS, no problems. Scans great!

Installed 2001 because it's the last version which would run in Win95 (I believe). Bought it on eBay for $8.60 TOTAL. Pretty good
deal but you could find it for less if you are patient. Search eBay for 'systemworks 2001' or 'Norton anti* 2001'

As far as AD-WARE, I use Ad-aware, an older version. The bad thing is the 'definitions' file cannot be updated anymore. Never the
less, it detects MOST junk and fixes it too! I could send it in an attachment if you'd like however the email here is setup to
automatically delete hotmail from the server. So if you email, the email cannot have a return address of hotmail (as below).

Ad-Aware and Spybot both run fine on Win95....you do have to add some of the Win95 updates, such as Winsock 2, and Visual Basic 6.0 Run-time libraries.

Grisoft's AVG 6.0 Free edition works fine on Win 95 also once it is updated:

I have DUN1.4 installed that includes Winsock2.  How do I find out if my W95
OSR2 PC has the Visual Basic 6.0 installed?  And if it's not there were do I
get it.  Any issues to consider before installing Spybot?  Thanks.

Go here and click the link in the article to download the update, then install it:
VBRun60sp5.exe Installs Visual Basic 6.0 Run-Time Files:

You are probably OK if you already have DUN 1.4 and Winsock 2 installed.  If any of the apps need something else, they will complain about it when you try to run them.

I suggest using IE 5.5 SP2 with Win95.

...and the only thing that comes to mind about Spybot is to read the help files carefully, and after scanning with it, only remove the items it lists in RED.
