Wondering about "zip" files

Hi!

I'm definitely new here so if this is not the place to get this info I start
with an apology...

I'm currently working with an  Excel workbook that I need to Zip and send to
an assortment of company computers.  Everything works well except when I try
to run an "exe" zip file... it either stalls or will not create the new
directories that I need to put the workbook in to.

Now to add to the confusion... not all my Win 95 computers have this problem
with the exactly same file... is there something in the set-up that might be
preventing the files to not be able to extract?

Still another "hmmmm"
Today one of my Win 95 computers would not create a directory C:\My Payroll
or therefore C:\My Payroll\Payroll 2004... Would anybody know why not?

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

Greg

Consider this standard response, even you don't mention the normal
"header corrupt" message.

You may not like this answer from the Winzip FAQ but it seems to be
the most common cause....

Why am I suddenly getting "header corrupt" messages when I run
self-extractors?

You have probably exceeded the limit of objects in the root folder.
(I assume original Win95, not OSR2 with FAT32)

Although Win95 allows 512 entries in a root directory, any folder or
filename over 13 characters will use 3 or more entries.
(This restriction does not apply to FAT32)

It is possible you have exceeded the limit of files+folders if you
have a lot of LFN's
If so, then reduce the number. There is a limit on subfolders of 64K
entries. (FAT16 and FAT32)

For more info, check the MS Knowledge base article Q120138

I definitely like the second answer better than the first!
Thanks for all the info!

Lots of stuff to look at and I'm definitely a lot closer to a solution than
I was!

You rock!
