Hello:

When I open Windows Explorer I only get the left pane showing Desktop, C
drive, D drive, etc.  When I open the folders nothing appears on the right
side, no right pane opens to reveal the folder's contents.

Is there a setting I need to change?

Thanks in Advance.  Frank

Only in Details view?
If so, Click in the blank right-hand pane.
Press the Ctrl key and the + key
(only the + key on the numeric keypad)

When I click View and change to Large icons or Small Icons nothing changes
even after pressing Refresh.

I don't see any structure to the right pane only the items to the left on a
completely white screen.

Holding control and + didn't seem to do anything.

Thanks for your assistance, Frank

No, there is no right pane.

From Start I open Windows Explorer and a list appears beginning with
Desktop, then My Computer, etc. on the left side of a completely white
screen.  When I click on a drive or folder it will open but nothing is shown
anywhere.  There is no left pane or right pane.  Nothing changing when I
change the icon sizes in View.

I was reading that other programs could effect Windows and maybe this is
what happened.  In addition to the 3Com Modem Manager and Kensington
MouseWorks when I do ctrl alt del to see programs running they are:
Exploring - Cdpro (haven't seen that before), Explorer, MS Office Shortcut
Bar, Mdmmgr, Loadwc, Realplay, Fastfind, Osa, Rsrcmtr, Qshelf 98, Systray
and Rnaapp.

All else with the system seems to be working Okay but it would be convenient
to locate files using Windows Explorer.

Other programs installed (and their variations) include:  Adaptec Easy Cd
creator, Corel Photo-Paint9, Dail-up Networking 1.4, HP CD-Writer,
IomegaWare, IE5.5, Netmeeting 2.1, MS Office97, Outlook98 and Express5,
Publisher95, Media player 6.4, Realplayer, Webpublishing Wizard, WinZip.

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Is this something I should just live with or is it best to back up all my
important files and go through a complete Installation of Windows 95
followed by all my other programs.  Been there before, no easy task.

Thanks again, Frank

Is the Explorer window full-size? I can make mine look and act like that by
maximizing the window, dragging the separator all the way to the right, then
un-maximizing it, as it reaizes itself slightly smaller.

When moving your mouse over the right edge of the window, does the cursor
change to a double-arrow <--> immediately, or a <-|-> a pixel before that?
If it's a <-|->, drag that "separator" bar back to there it's supposed to be.

Also, double-click the header bar at the top and see what happens.

No left *or* right? Ooops, I missed that part.

See if the procedure in this article helps -
"All Folders" Pane Missing or Windows Explorer Is Blank
http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=192315

"....use Registry Editor to delete the ExplorerBar value in the following registry key, and then restart your computer:

  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

"The ExplorerBar value contains positioning information for the All Folders pane in Windows Explorer. The value is created only if the window has been resized. Removing the value returns the window to the default position."

re: cdpro -
The only references I find to Cdpro are as a part of an ESS sound card driver or utility, as a Sanyo CD driver, a software package for analyzing protein CD spectra, and a freeware audio CD player.

Is View->Explorer Bar->Folders ticked ?
If is not, there will be only one pane.

On my Win 95b there is no ExplorerBar under View only toolbar and status
bar.  Still can't figure why the size of the icons don't change when asked
to do so.

I saw the thread about changing the Registry but I am just not comfortable
with that based on bad experiences in the past.

Looks like I may have to re-build the entire system if I want to clear this
up or should I?

I really appreciate everyone's advise on  this.  Thanks, Frank

Frank....just delete the one value from the registry key, as mentioned, and nothing else.
It will either fix it or not...as long as you only delete the one value, there will be no problem.  Export the key to a file, prior to deleting the value from it.

If that does not fix it, try doing a repair of IE; if still no joy, reinstall the version of IE you currently have.

I don't know about the 'b' version, as I'm using the original 4.00.950
Changing the registry is so easy but if you go that route, save the 2
database registry files first, so that you can restore them, if need be.
