Not sure of the technical term, but I need to to restore
my computer back to a previous date.  I have done so
before but cannot remember what I need to type at the DOS
prompt.  Is it something like system restore?

There is no system restore in Win95.
If you have done something similar before, then you may have had some
third party program to do it.

I've read that each time Windows 95 starts, it makes one backup of the registry so if
that backup is good you could use that. You should be able to find articles on
backing up and restoring the registry that will tell you how to do this at the DOS
prompt and what the names of the two backup files are.

Registry

SYSTEM.DAT
USER.DAT

Registry Backup

I also recommend backing up the critical VMM32.VXD
