I am still using windows 95 and would like to get the
available updates, but the site will not open. Everything
else seems to be working. Any suggestions?

What site exactly are you trying to get to? Windows Update is not available for Windows 95. The only site where you can download stuff is http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/.

go there nothing happens. The hour glass never stops and
when it does it says the site is unavailable.
