A friend of mine who has 95' (I'm working on getting him
to update) gets an error message whenever he tries to
view an attachment. He said it saves properly, but when
he tries to view it, he gets this Error message: rich
edit control dll file may be missing or corrupt . Any
clues as to what he should do to rectify this? Thanks.

That depends on what file type the attachment is.
Can you ask him to supply the extension of the attachment?
(.doc, .exe, .rtf etc.)
Can you also ask him what application he is using to open it?

See if you can get the exact error message.

Alan,
He's using 95' and that is the EXACT error message. The
attachments are .doc.

You missed one question.
What application is he using to open it?
If Word, what version?
If Wordpad, that may not be a suitable program to open a .doc file
produced in Word, though that normally gives a different message.

No mention of riched20.dll in the message?
There are many rich edit control problems and it needs to be narrowed
down a bit.
