I entered a login in name and a password then window 95 crashed. I can still access Dos
I've done a lot of work on it to bring it back now there are only 2 error messages left
1."Scandisk encounted a data error while reading the FAT on C. This error prevents scan disk from fixing the drive. " it does this message at 50% of the scan on C drive
second messag
2. "Scandisk encounted a data error while reading the FAT entry for cluster 56440. This error prevents scan disk from fixing the drive." (this error is D drive.
Can any one make any suggestions
What I would like to do is be able to bring the program back up, copy my files, then reformat the whole thing
Thanks in advance
Your entering a password login just happened to coincide with the failure.
It was not the cause of the failure. You have serious failure in your hard
drive.
You might try the following from a restart in DOS (not a dos prompt in
windows)
type in "fdisk/mbr" (without the quote marks)
If that does not fix it, you are looking at reformatting the drive as a
minimum and a new drive possible.
You might also try to run the scandisk from a bootable startup disk using
the "complete sector by sector check".

That is a restart in DOS....press F8, get the boot menu, and choose "Command Prompt Only".
