My friend has a computer that he runs 95 windows in. He's
very computer knowledgable but is stuck on this one.
Somehow a virus got in the computer and is just running
porn(this computer is for his 3 young children)! He's been
working on it and tried to install a 98 upgraded version
but the computer said he could only run the original. Does
anybody have any answers other than getting an original 95
or 98 Windows disk and if so, where can I get one. Your
immediate response would be so appreciated!!
Thanks,
Trish

I think the problem might be the other way around to what you have
described. Without the exact error message it's hard to tell, but it seems
that the W98 CD he has is an OEM version, and will not do an upgrade. He
can try to get an Upgrade CD from eBay or similar, or he can format the
drive so that he's starting with a blank hard disk, and install from the CD
he has.
This could be confirmed if you can quote the exact message that he's seeing.

although there is a way to trick the installer to upgrade win95
(rename win.com and reinstall in the original windows folder)
the virus or spyware may still be there...
i think i;d run a virsus checker etc, on the machine
or else put the needed data in a folder
delete everything else
then do a clean install of win95

Try the scumware removal tools: AdAware and Spybot. Remove
everything they find. Then run antivirus and the IE repair tool.
