Add printer problem

Hi,
I have a Packard Bell AXCEL 3510 running an OEM version of Windows 95, and
recently I encountered a problem trying to add a printer. Opening the
Printers folder and double clicking Add a Printer results in activity on the
hard drive but nothing else. Opening Control Panel and using Add New
Hardware, I can get Windows to copy the driver files from and act like it's
going to install the printer, but it does not. Does anyone have any
troubleshooting routine I could run through? The machine is being used
solely for word processing and printing envelopes, and it can't be upgraded
to Windows 98 unless we add some more memory to it, which I'd rather not do.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You need the drivers for your printer. WIN95 only has drivers for a few
(very old)
printers included with it. Find out what model of printer it is and get the
drivers
for it from manufacturers website.

This behavior can occur if either or both of the following files are missing or damaged:
Msprint.dll
Msprint2.dll

RESOLUTION
If these files exist on the hard disk, rename them. Then, extract new copies of these files from your original Windows 95 disks or CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder. The Msprint.dll file and the Msprint2.dll file are located in the Precopy1.cab cabinet file.

For additional information about using the Extract tool, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION
This behavior can also occur if the Windows\Inf folder is missing or damaged. To resolve this issue, extract all the .inf files from the Precopy2.cab file to the Windows\Inf folder. For information about using the Extract tool, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;129605

Other files that are accessed when you activate the Add Printer Wizard include:
Setupx.dll
Setup4.dll
Mmci.dll
Iosclass.dll
Rundll32.exe
Sysclass.dll
