I work on computers that I can buy cheap on ebay try to
fix them up for some kids that can't afford to have one. I
know that they are old and slow but it is a good tool for
the child to learn on.  I have three sets of windows 95
some high density and some 1.44 mb. I always format the
hard drive with a windows 98 setup floppy write proof.then
try to start the windows application, but every one of the
sets of floppys have a bad number 2 disk. The last set of
floppys I bought were factory sealed never been used,
still the same problem. I have tried to purchase a new
disk from microsoft (keyword) KBSETUP136111 and the lady
told me that windows 95 was not supported. does anyone
know what the problem is am I doing something wrong or is
it something else.  I would like to get a setup disk 2, I
can't afford to keep putting money into something that
doesn't work. Thanks for any info

If you will send an email to rwg1936@hotmail.com with a means of contacting
you, I will make you a copy of my disk #2.
The above address is a one I seldom monitor, so be sure to make the subject
Window 95 disk 2 so that I will recognize it.

the first disk in the set lets the computer read the rest of the 1.68mb
disks in the set.

if you have legal copies of win95 , why not get someone to burn you a cd for
installing

also this could apply

look in KB for Q136111 if link doesn't work

also you can get a win95 boot disk if required from here www.bootdisk.com

Fried Win95 installation diskette 2 is an old problem.

MS used DMF (either 1.7M or 2M per diskette) to use fewer diskettes,
from diskette 2 onwards in the set.  If you had an active boot virus
when installing, and the diskettes were not write-protected, then the
virus' low-level disk writes (as it attempted to infect) would kill
the disk.  I can't remember whether MS required write access to the
second diskette as part of "personalizing" the set; could be.

OTOH, a badly aligned head would have the same effect.  It's bad
practice to leave crucial diskettes write-enabled, as it is for
vandors to require write access to such diskettes.

Running Windows-based av to kill active malware is like striking
a match to see if what you are standing in is water or petrol.
