Elderly parents just got Compaq LTE 5300 with Windows 95.
I'm on XP and don't know how to get them a printer cable
and a printer to start them with word processing. Help me

You need a printer that uses a parallel port connection to the computer, rather than USB.  Some printers have both connections available, and you use the one you need.  Many new printers only have a USB port, and these will not be usable on an old Win95 machine.

You will also need to find out if the printer you are buying has Win95 drivers....that may be the hardest part, as most current printers no longer have win95 support.

You will have to buy a cable separately from the printer....it will need a IEEE-1294 Parallel Port printer cable.
