invalid system disk

hey..im trying to reinstall windows after my father
touched it and buggered it up >:(  
well all i seem to get is "invalid system disk"
i cant hold down ctrl as it just ignores this and goes
straight to "invalid system disk"
i would be grateful for any help as this is me grandads pc
and it keeps the old man happy on rainy days ;)

Make a new floppy start up disk, make sure the BIOS is set to read the
floppy drive first (first boot device) and then try installing per the
instructions here:  http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html
These instructions also tell how to make the floppy start up disk.
