I want to reformat my hard drive and reload Windows 98,
but I have the following problem:
When I run format from the startup diskette, I am told
that the drive I am formatting is a compressed drive. It
tells me to use the DRVSPACE tool (Drivespace) to format
the drive.
I enter Windows, and use the tool, however I am told that
my C: Drive is the startup drive and I cannot use the
format feature of DRVSPACE to reformat that drive.
I have tried to Uncompress the C: Drive, but I get an
error message saying that there is a problem with the
drive and to use Scandisk to repair the error.
I run Scandisk and there are no bad sectors found.
Is there any way I can reformat my hard drive?

Hi
Boot with a startup disk and use Fdisk to remove the primary
partition then recreated it. Here are a couple of articles to guide you.

Zap or Wipe freeware will remove all partition information so you can
start over fresh with FDisk. Download here:
