When I start my computer for the first time of the day it
will not recognize my second cd rom drive. If I put a cd in
the drive and restart it will recognize the drive. It will
recognize the drive if I restart without a cd in it as long
as I don't shut down for an extended period such as overnigh.

The CD is apparently recognized when the PC is warmed up and this
suggests a hardware problem like a minute crack in circuitry.
