I am trying to use my 3.5" floppy recovery diskette, to
totally wipe my computer as the kids now have it due to
my new computer.
At 1 time perhaps a year or so ago I installed a windows
xp cd and each time the computer started , it gave me the
option of starting in either the windows 98 or the
windows xp. This xp disk is no where to be found, and I
cannot remember how I got it).
I have been unable to use option 7 on the disk (loosing
everything - basically) cleanly. But now I have tried
this on several occasions, I wonder if files are being
kept as I was running two O.S. (all files were not
removed)
I do not have a windows xp disk, but do have the windows
98 cd. I want to run windows 98. I keep getting
explore.exe fault, brows.cui? I think. Please help.Alan

Zap or Wipe freeware will remove all partition information so you can
start over fresh with FDisk. Download here:

For information on installing W98, go to:

Alan,
When asking for technical help a little more info on your
part will go a long way to resolve your problem. What type
of drive, capacity, etc. would be useful info. Go to the
website for the drive maker and check on some of the
utilities and technical help they provide.
I agree with Ron's reply to your problem description that
wiping the partitions or FDISKing and reformatting the
drive with a clean reinstall is probably the best solution.
Never hurts to reformat logical drives after a couple of
years of use. Magnetics are magnetics - good, but only
temporary and degradable storage solutions.
