Have a BenQ CD-RW that was workingg okay until I viewed
some clip art. Also have an Iomega external USB CD RW and
both worked okay for past two years running 98SE.
Went to upgrade to XP Home and got a error message. Was
able to reboot into safe mode and exit the XP setup and
now can boot into 98SE.
However, the internal BenQ CDRW still does not work. Like
I said earlier, the Benq CDRW worked okay until a short
time back I had it lock up when viewing some Clipart.
It will play music CD's, but cannot do a dir of contents
of a CD.
Tried removing the Benq drive from device manager and
rebooted, but still doesn't work right and I believe that
when I restarted the PC after removing the device that
98SE did not discover the Benq CDRW drive as a new
device.
How can I reinstall the drivers for the CDRW that came
with Win98SE as only thing I think of is that the drivers
or CAB files on the hard drive might be corrupted?
Thanks,

When trying to run xp home upgrade CD the BenQ CDRW will
not read the disk. XP Home upgrade CD reads on other CD
drives. The BenQ drive will play music CD's. That tells
me that either the configuration got changed somehow or
the protected mode driver/s got corrupted somehow.
How does one reinstall the protected CD Rom driver/IDE
controller driver for the BenQ CDRW? No viruses on PC.
