MS-dos compatibility mode & lost CD drive

My hard drive & partitions all read as MSDOS
compatibility mode, and the CDRW/DVD drive is not shown
in Windows 98SE, so I cannot access it. (It was the H:
drive).
This happened after trying to install a USB mobile disk
driver.  I have uninstalled the driver to see if that
would resolve the problem, but this did not work.
I have also checked the internal cables  - there are no
loose wires.
Any help would be greatly appeciated.  Thank you.

See if the information in the following knowledge base articles helps.  The
four articles at the top are the most relevant and they will probably
contain the solution.  The articles start getting more specialized as you go

Thank you.  I have already looked at some of these, but
will try the other articles when I get home from work
this evening.
Regards, Barrie.

PS The driver I tried to install was for a Twinmos mobile
disk(not sure if that is relevant).  The CD is a Lite-on
CDRW/DVD combi.

Turned out it was the VIA busmaster chipset.  Everything
now working, after downloading new driver from Viatech.
Many thanks for your help. Regards, Barrie
