cannot format HD with boot disk

I have a 98SE boot disk.  Booted to the A drive.  Hit
shift F5 to get me to DOS prompt.  Entered in format c: at
the prompt and keep receiving error message "invalid
prompt".  Can anyone HELP me????

Try creating a new boot disk.
